For those that inquire about my teaching...
Currently, I teach trombone at the New England Conservatory. (http://necmusic.edu/faculty/stephen-lange) Currently, I have a healthy 8 students in my studio. In addition to wonderful curriculem NEC provides each student, I also work hard to create new and unique opportunities for my students. In addition to the weekly private lesson, we also gather most weeks during the school year (or as the BSO schedule will allow!) These studio classes give us a chance to broaden our craft to material not quite possible in just one weekly private lesson. For example, we have had classes on performance technique, audition stress, ensemble skills - intonation and balance, mock auditions, orchestral excerpt coaching, etc. It's yet again another chance to test out what the student has learned, and another chance to perform it. The result of this model helps to encourage the students to also rely and learn from one another. An additional core component of our studio includes new ways of creative practice, which include recording with Digital Audio Workstations. We also plan a studio recital every year - giving the students a chance to play something for the public. Everyone plays 10-15 minutes, with piano accompaniment, and we will play an ensemble piece to close out the recital. Again, it is another opportunity to hone those performance skills - a nice "warmup" to the required senior or master's recital! Whether pursuing the next graduate school or a professional audition, my goal is to make sure each student is prepared for the next step in their journey.
Update (July 2020): I have updated my internet and studio technology to now offer online lesson via the Zoom Platform. You may contact me at stephen.lange@necmusic.edu.
